Individual Therapy
Individual therapy at San Diego Mindfulness Center offers compassionate, connected, client-focused support through a mindfulness lens. Our therapists integrate mindfulness-based principles with approaches like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and psychodynamic and existential therapy, matching the approach to you rather than the other way around.
Who Individual Therapy Can Help
Anxiety or persistent worry
Stress, burnout, or emotional overwhelm
Life transitions — career, relationships, relocation, aging
Difficulty with self-worth, self-criticism, or identity
Depression or low motivation
Grief or loss
Trauma or its lingering effects
A general sense of feeling stuck or unclear about what's next
If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or need help navigating the road ahead, our therapists are here to help. If you're not sure whether what you're experiencing “counts,” that's a common feeling, and it's not a barrier to reaching out.
Our Approach
Individual therapy at SDMC is grounded in mindfulness-based principles: learning to notice the patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior that tend to drive distress, and building a new, more spacious relationship to them. Alongside this foundation, our therapists draw on evidence-informed approaches suited to each client, including CBT, IFS, psychodynamic and existential therapy, and trauma-informed and gender-affirming care.
Depending on which clinician you work with, your therapist may also bring specialized experience in areas like maternal mental health, relational trauma, complex family dynamics, or existential and identity-focused work.
What to Expect
Your first step is a brief consultation to talk through what's bringing you to therapy and find the clinician who's the right fit. From there, most clients begin with weekly sessions, in person at our Hillcrest or Carmel Valley office, with the pace and format adjusted over time based on your needs and goals.
Before your first session, see our New Patient Information & FAQ and Notice of Privacy Practices.
